How to grow Instagram business account for small businesses organicallyMay 11, 2020
Instagram is changing. And seems harder than ever, to grow your small business organically on Instagram. One of the best marketing strategies that a small business can take advantage of is lead generation through Instagram. But it is not easy like that of the early days. There is a chance that you might be also experiencing a drop out in followers and engagements. This is extremely frustrating. So how to grow Instagram account?
But it is possible to grow followers and businesses using these Instagram strategies.
I am gonna list down my favorite Instagram tips, tactics, and strategies for organic customer generation. So you can grow your business on Instagram without buying followers, using bots, or resorting to other shady practices.
Build a content strategy
What you post and when you post it are the two important elements of any good strategist. So here are some tips on how to create a content strategy that works.
Have you ever stumbled on accounts that look great if you have opened any images? That’s due to a good content theme. So you want to stick to a theme to make everything cohesive just like this account.
See what it looks like.
It looks clean and promotes you to browse. Having a color palette or a good photo incurred with graphics can make your account feel very cohesive and look like a part of a brand.
You can even use your brand colors and any other design elements to create templates for your post. This is gonna make your content theme match with your brand.
You also have to decide the type of content you are posting. So this can reduce your daily pressure of deciding things to post because you are pretty planned out.
Optimize your bio
Your Instagram bio is the first thing that your audience notices.
The very first thing you need to do is convert your Instagram profile to a business profile, which is easy.
So how exactly can you optimize an Instagram bio?
For this, you want to choose a photo that speaks for your brand. Branding is the key here. You can use your logo as long as it is easier to read and adaptable to the round space dedicated for a profile photo.
If you are into a business of coaching or personal brands where someone uses their name as a brand then just use a great photo of yourself.
Next, include the keywords in name or hashtags in your bio description. Make your bio description unique within your niche. Tell the problem you solve or the transformation you bring to the table.
Finally, you also have one chance to send people back to your website so think of where you want to direct people into. Is it your homepage or landing page for a specific offer? You got options here so weight it out. Also, you can change it in the future depending on the trend.
Hashtag strategy gives you the chance to be found by new people searching for your topic. If you want to wing it here then you have to research using the right tags.
For this start by making a list of your desired keywords. Type them into the search of Instagram. This will show you a lot of related tags and how many other posts are using it. This will give you a sense of the competition level involved.
A good strategy here involves using several tags from every level of popularity. So you may be needing some with millions of posts or with hundreds of thousands and some others with tens of thousands and then really niche ones maybe a thousand or less.
Keep them in a spreadsheet and then you can pick out twenty or thirty that are most fitting for your individual posts.
Audience generated content
You don’t have to create all the content by yourself.
The best strategy involves at least using some content that might come from your audience. It can be anything from photos of them enjoying your product or service or could be a video testimonial.
The #RedCupContest is one of such a smart campaign by Starbucks that encourages their fans to share their moments with drinking in red cups. They ensure the participation of clients by offering a prize. For them, this contest promotes a seasonal campaign as well as helps in generating sales — as you can post if you pose with their product.
These reposts are not only seen by your followers but also by the followers of your customers who had posted. This will increase your reach organically and can get you more followers or customers.
But you can’t just pray and hope that this happens, especially if you are a small business. You need to offer incentives to get this kind of thing done. It could be special offers or even a freebie of some kind or you can run a contest. In either case, you want to give them something really specific. In other words, don’t make them just think of something to make a post. You want to be very specific about what you want them to post. Say this type of photo using this hashtag and then tag us in the post to enter. Once the post starts coming all you have to do is share them on your account.
But what’s especially cool about IGTV is that it’s on Instagram where you can be more off-the-cuff. So think of a great piece of advice, or a helpful tip or behind scenes or even an event or special offer. Once you get the idea, just pull out your phone and start shooting.
In IGTV description for each video, you can put a clickable link to your desired web page. Also, use the hashtag strategy we mentioned before to get the maximum reachability.
These videos can also show up in your feed if you set it up that way. Then what shows up there and the news feed is a one minute preview of that video. This allows your audience to decide whether or not they want to watch the whole video. So that’s why you want to make each second interesting because you only have one minute to make that good impression.
Instagram Live video
One of the best things that happened in social media marketing, in general, is that you can go live and engage with your audience in real-time which is an amazing opportunity for any business.
Live video makes your brand more real, more relatable like a real human is being behind the brand.
You can do anything with the live video. You can do a live contest with prizes, you can announce a new product or a new service. One of my favorite ways to do this is a live Q&A where your audience can ask you anything. You know if your small business is a restaurant then you can try doing a cooking show. For other small businesses, you can do a tutorial or teach a new skill through a live video. Live videos can thus enhance the customer engagement of your small business.
If you’re not using stories for your business then you should be paying close attention here.
So what you have to do is post compelling stories that make your audience engage with your content. For example, you can ask your audience a question in one story then post their responses as follow-ups to that story. Or you can ask them to submit questions to you and then you answer each one in a separate story as a video or as a post. I love that one because it keeps the conversation going and an endless content generator for you.
You can create polls, you can show video or podcast episodes or even repurpose your existing content in a story. There are so many options here, just be creative.
In a story, you can use up to 10 hashtags. Here’s a little tip, you can actually hide your hashtags by blending the font with the solid background of your story or just shrink it down small and then add a sticker on top of it. So that way you have the benefit of still being searchable. When people type in a hashtag, you will still be found for it but it doesn’t clutter up the look of your story.
Include calls to action
You have to provide calls to action on your captions. This is what’s going to make your leads engage with you and ultimately converts.
So remember that the link in your bio is the one way you can get people to your website and that’s not gonna happen if you don’t have a compelling call to action.
Also, remember you are not always directing people away from Instagram. Through Instagram you want them to engage with your small business and this doesn’t happen naturally. It is always a good idea to end every post with a question because if you don’t ask for engagement they won’t. So be aware to add a call to action for your audience to engage with you.
